Upton Library July Events

Author Visit with Cheryl Lampshire
On Saturday, July 20th from 12pm to 2pm, local author Cheryl Lampshire will be visiting Upton Town Library to share her book “Heart Hound Stories”, a joyful reflection on the author’s life and lessons learned from her quintet of giant hounds.  The stories span four decades, two continents and a lifetime of learning.  Cheryl will be available to sign copies of the book and share dog stories.  View Cheryl's website at http://hearthoundstories.com/

Lil’ Folk Farm’s Traveling Petting Zoo
The Lil’ Folk Farm is taking over the library lawn with their Traveling Petting Zoo on Wednesday, July 10, 11am-1pm! Come meet their goats, sheep, rabbit, chickens and a duck! Children may go right in the animals’ pen to pet, brush and feed them. A second pen will house a llama, alpaca or donkey for petting. All of the farm animals are friendly and patient. No registration is required, and visitors may come and go anytime during this event.

Sparky’s Puppets "Dig Into Reading" Show
Sparky’s Puppets will be presenting a “Dig Into Reading” puppet show at Nipmuc High School Auditorium on Tuesday, July 16, 3pm-4pm. This show weaves together mysterious creatures, enchanted objects, and magical adventures all from the pages of classic children’s books! This show is for kids aged 0 through 10 and is free to the public. No registration is necessary to attend.

Summer Book and Movie Club
Upton Town Library will be holding its second of three summer Book and Movie Club meetings for 9 to 12 year olds on Wednesday, July 17, 2pm-4pm. The club will consist of arriving to the group with the book already read and discussing it briefly, then watching the film together and finally comparing and contrasting the two.  Sign-up sheets for the club are available at the circulation desk. Please direct any questions and future title suggestions to the library by calling 508-629-6272 or by emailing Nicole at nicole.uptonlibrary@gmail.com.

Teen Summer Reads  Study Group
Students who plan to attend Miscoe Hill Middle School or Nipmuc High School next year and will be in rising grades 8 through 12 may attend our Teen Summer Reads Study Group on Wednesday, July 24, 2pm-2:45pm. We will meet and casually discuss the required summer reading for fall while teens are free to read at their own pace and share their insights on what they have read so far.

Summer TinyTots “Baby” Storytime
Making connections—whether with books, music, or people—is the foundation of storytime at Upton Town Library. TinyTots (aka Baby) Storytime is ideal for acquainting babies, toddlers, and young children with the library, literature, language and music, as well as for them to bond with their parents and caregivers and meet new friends! TinyTots lasts about 20 minutes followed by open playtime and book browsing. Registration is requested, but drop-ins are always welcome. Sessions are held in eight-week intervals on Friday mornings at 10:30am with our Summer program running from June 21 to August 9, 2013.

Preschool Storytime
Preschool Storytime is on Thursdays at Upton Town Library! Several picture books are read aloud followed by a theme-related activity or craft. Our upcoming themes for July include dinosaurs, animals that burrow, and treasure! Note: We will only offer one afternoon storytime on July 18 at 1:30pm in order to accommodate other summer library events, however, we will meet every Thursday morning in July at 10:30am.  Registration is requested, but drop-ins are always welcome.

Drop In Craft Day
For elementary-school aged kids Upton Town Library will be offering Drop-In Craft Days over the summer! Join us on Thursday, July 11, and/or Thursday, July 25, between 12pm-5pm to create crafts that focus on Digging Into the Past and Adventure.
