Library Book Group - August 2019

The Library Book Group meets at 7:00pm on the last Wednesday of each month, in the library gathering room. Book titles are chosen by the members and copies are available at the library. The group alternates between fiction and non-fiction titles. Copies of each month’s book are available at the library. Please call the library directly at 529-6272 to request a copy of this month's title.

This month we are reading Beneath a Scarlet Sky, by Mark Sullivan.

In 1940s Italy, teenager Pino Lella joins an underground railroad helping Jews escape over the Alps and falls for a beautiful widow, he also becomes the personal driver of one of the Third Reich's most powerful commanders.

Annual Stuffed Animal Sleepover


We welcome our fuzziest patrons for a special overnight at the library!

Help your stuffed animal learn to visit the library and to love reading!
Stuffies of all shapes and sizes are invited.

Stuffed animals should be dropped off Tuesday (no later than 6pm, please) for their overnight of fun and then picked up on Wednesday after 10am and before we close at 8pm.

Kids' Book Club 2019-2020


The Kids' Book Club is looking for new members! 

We meet at 4:00pm on the first Wednesday of each month, in the library Gathering Room. Each month, members explore popular juvenile and preteen titles. Copies are available at the circulation desk for both members and nonmembers.

Registration for the 2019-2020 Kids' Book Club begins on August 1, 2019.

Summer Space Storywalk!


Join us on the Upton Town Common for the StoryWalk of Zelda's Big Adventure by Marie Alafaci
Read each poster as you stroll through the common, then walk across across to the library for a drop-in craft.
Best for ages 3-8.

Drop in anytime between 10:00 and 2:00.

Read Around the Town - Change in Location

Due to upcoming wet weather the location for Thursday's Preschool Read Around the Town Storytime will be at the library's Gathering Room.  We will host Mr. Bill Taylor from the Upton State Forest.  Join us at 10:30 for stories and songs about trees!  Best for ages 3-5.  Siblings will be accommodated for this summer event.

Lunar Landing Challenge!

July 20th 2019 is the 50th anniversary of the first moon landing! At the Upton Town Library we're celebrating with a STEM program where kids assume the role of NASA aerospace engineer while they design and build a lunar lander!

Protect marshmallow "astronauts" as they land!

Registration is required. 

Appropriate for ages 7 to 12.

Movie Night! - Guardians of the Galaxy

We'll screen the movie GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY, rated PG-13, in our Gathering Room. 

Cosmic outlaws face an interstellar villain who seeks to control the universe with a powerful orb. Together, Peter Quill, Rocket Raccoon, Groot, Gamora and Drax the Destroyer may be the galaxy's only hope for thwarting Ronan's sinister plan.
Suggested ages 11-16.

The Upton Reads Book Group meets on the second Tuesday of each month at 12:45 and on the second Thursday of each month at 6:45 in the library gathering room. Sue Pfeiffer from the library staff leads a casual and thought-provoking discussion of an eclectic mix of contemporary literary fiction. Copies of each month’s book are available at the library. Science Tellers: Aliens - Escape from Earth

Join us on our intergalactic out-of-this-world space adventure story, featuring awesome science experiments about inertia, pressure, density, chemical changes, energy and more!

Appropriate for ages 3 - 12. No registration is required.

Caregivers must remain onsite during the program.

Program is at Memorial Elementary School Cafeteria.

Museum of Science Night Sky Planetarium Event -- July 9, 2019





Night Sky is a 30-minute program that teaches how to find celestial objects in the nighttime sky.

Inside the planetarium, participants will observe a realistic model and learn how to find planets, constellations, important stars and other astronomical objects.

Registration for this event is required. Only 25 participants per session.
Session 1: July 9, 10:30am
Session 2: July 9, 11:30am

For ages 5 - 18. This is not a drop-off event. Each participant must have a caregiver present during the event.

Location: Memorial School Cafetorium, 69 Main St., Upton.
